The Harvard International Office (HIO) is a great resource for all questions related to employment as an international student. Here are links to some of the most frequently asked questions:

  • Detailed information about On-Campus Employment for international students can be found here on the HIO website.

  • Taxes & Social security number:

    All employees in the U.S. must have a Social Security Number to work. If an international student does not already have a SSN, a temporary number may be used for hiring purposes while the student is in the process of applying for a permanent SSN. Visit the HIO's page on Social Security Numbers for more details on the application process. 

    Once a permanent SSN is obtained, students must update my.Harvard with their SSN as well as their Sprintax account.
